Research Abstract |
he objects of the research are divided into the following two kinds of systems. 1. Porous filters impregnated with surfactants An excitatory potential generated in response to stimulation by a current pulse has been examined on an artificial membrane composed of a Nuclepore filter which was impregnated with sorbitan monooleate and set between aqueous solutions of KC1 with different concentrations. The excitatory potential response of rectangular shape was found to occur above a threshold value of the pulse height for current stimulation and it discretely increased with rising current stimulation. 2. Interface between oil and an aqueous solution of surfactant Oscillatory behaviors in response to current-clamp and voltage-clamp stimulation were examined on a water/oil/water system consisting of an aqueous solution of sodium oleate as surfactant, nitrobenzene and an aqueous solution of sodium chloride. A stable oscillation with a period of 10 min. was observed only when the strength of the stimulation lay within a specific range of values. Further, this potential oscillation was found to follow a turbulent flow of the aqueous solution of surfactant near the interface.
