Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to clarify how expectations of principals' roles transform and should transform, from the viewpoint of the change of principals' image. Therefore, our study consists of the following three categories : foreign study, historical study and investigative study. We have studied in these three parts and got the following results. 1. Foreign study : We classified principals' image and expectations of principals' roles based on the results of theoretical study in the United States etc. . Principals' image of "Reform-Development-Style" results from these theoretical study. This principals' image is based on the function of management and the ideal. 2. Historical study : We have engaged in historical study about principals' image in postwar Japan. We found that the principals' image in Japan had very much to do with the educational policy and the educational problems of those days. 3. Investigative study : We investigated how principals, assistant principals and teachers think of the management style in school, the style of principals' management behavior, the professional development of principals, the career of principals, the system of principal selection and the reform of the system. The response rate of our investigation was over 60%. Now we are on the process of analysing the results of the investigation.
