| Research Abstract |
The aim of this kljprofect was to search all of the materials held in Lafcadio Hearn Collections of public and pr4Lvate libraries and universities and -Lo compile them in a general catalogue by using a data-base program, and, based on the compilation, to prepare for revising Hearn's works and letters published nearly one hundred years ago.
Understanding the significance of this project, 31 libraries in Japan and the United States which hold Hearn Collections of his books, manuscripts, autograph letters and other materials, sent us not only requested information but also microfilms amounting to twenty thousand pages of valuable manuscripts and documents. We deeply appreciate their kind cooperations and helps and advices.
I published the general catalogue of 474 pages from Matsue Municipal Library in 1991, . and its supplement from the Hearn Society in 1992 by the help of two assistants.
Under this project, we had a vision of making three libraries in Matsue ininformation center of Lafcadio Hearn's study and writers who visited Japan and wrote literary works, so as the first step of realizing it, we collected essays and nearly 500 articles on Lafcadio Hearn written in Japan and English.
