Research Abstract |
At first I planned to make a chronological table of Introductory Books and Text-Books of Pysics in English in the 17- 19th Century. And I could make such a chronological table and could collect many old books in physics. Then I discovered to can divide those books into the following three classes. that is : 1. Lectures and Text-books by proffessors of Oxford University and Cambrige University. 2. Lectures and Introductory books on physics by many town lecturers of experimental philosophy in London and itinerant lecturers. For example, there are such persons as J. T. Desaguliers (1683 -1744) and B. Martin (1704 -82), J. Ferguson (1710 - 1776), J. Priestley (1733-1804), A. Walker (1731 -1821) 3. Introductory books on physics and scientific guide-books by many educators for laborers and girls. For example, there are such persons as J. Imison (? - 1788) and Margaret Bryan (ca. 1760-), Jane Marcet (1769 -1859), Mary Swift (? - ?). And then, such clergies as J. Joyce (1763 -1816) and E. C. Brewer (1817 - 1897), and such highscool teachers as R. G. Parker (1798 -1869) wrote many primary books on sciences and school text books on physics.
