Research Abstract

Two liquid materials and electro detachable coil, that are used for end ovascular surgery for the central nervous system, were developed with the assistance of this aid. The one liquid material is the mixed solution of ethylene vinylalcohol copolymer, metrizamide and dimethylsulfoxide. Three different viscosity of this mixture were prepared for individual clinical cases. Thirty nine cerebral arteriovenous malformation were embolized with this material. This material proved to be the effective liquid embolization material. The most viscous type were also used for the end ovascular obliteration of the cerebral aneurysm. The other liquid material that was newly developed was copolymer of methylmethacrylate, butyl methacrylate and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (Eudragit-EIOO) dissolved in 50% ethanol solution. This material was experimentally used for the renal artery in dog and the histological examination using rat's kidneys showed the small arteries larger than 80 micron were completely occluded and histologically inert. Electro detachable coils was developed for the possible use for the cerebral aneurysm and carotid cavernous sinus fistulas. Platinum microcoils was connected to the guidewire via small copper wire. BY activation of the direct current (1-2mA) for ten minutes, the connecting copper wire electolysed and the platinum coil was detached from the guide wire. After experimental study using the mogreal dogs, this coil was used for the treatment of the spontaneous carotid cavernous sinus fistula.
