Research Abstract |
We investigated the synergy between defence mechanisms and antimicrobial chemotherapy in urinary tract infections in order to determine therapeutic fegimen for utinary tract infections in immunocompromised host. 1. Bactericidal Activities of Neutrophil in Human Urine : Most leukocytes, which appear in urine from tlie patients with urinary tract infections, are neutrophils. And these neutrophits have bactericidat activities at maximum in hypotonic urine. 'Fliefefore, adequate hydration is advantageous at the treatment for urinary tract infections. 2. Influence of Antimicrobial Agents on Bactericidat Activities of Leukocytes : New quinotones and penems enhance the bactericidal activities of nelitrophils and monocytes at certain concentrations. however, new quinolones suppress the bactericidal activities of neutropiiils and monocutes at high concentration. Therefore, new quinolones and penems should be administered against the urinary tract infections in imniunocompromised host. 3. Relationship between Bactericidal Activities of Leuukocytes and Seriousness of Urinary Tract Infections in Immunocompromised Itats : We made the pseudomonel pyelonephritis model of neutropenic rats, which were pretreated with cyclophosphaniide. And the retationship between the bactericidal activities of leukocytes arid the seriousness of pyelonephritis in neutropenic rats was seen. Furthermore, granurocyte colony-stimulating factor (C-CSF) prevented the seriousness of psetidomonal pyf, , Ioriephritis in neutropenic rats. 4. Prevention and 1'featm (, , nt for llyelonepl) ritis in Immunocompromised Host : The measurement of the bactericidal activity (, , s of I (., tikocytes is important to foresee the seriousn -ss of pyelorit. -phritis in immunocompromised host. And G-CSF prevents the seriousness of pyclonephritis. New qtjinotones or penems should be administered against pyelonephritis in such patients for enpancement of the bactericidal activities of leukocytes.
