| Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research project is to study internationalization in Japanese regions, centering on Nagano Prefecture.
The results as follows ;
1. Regionally-oriented internationalization has been steadily growing. However, what kind of role regions should play in internationalization is not very clear as yet.
2. Regional manufacturing industries have a tendency to accept foreign laborers rather than to establish plants overseas, because of the recent structural labor shortage in Japan. The regional manufacturing industries which make up over sixty percent of all the industries are labor intensive.
3. The regional inhabitants' interest in foreign countries and people as well as their consciousness of internationalization are not different from those of Tokyoites. Local inhabitants, however, has less experience in internationalization. This will be explained by their geographical conditions and historical localism.
