Research Abstract |
The faunal assemblages of the Tethys-Sea, which was lied between the Eurassia and Gondowana lands, may be bio-provincially distinguished into two groups by containing a Gondowanan elements or not. The representative (1985) have published a new proposal thet so called Tethys-Sea of the Late Permian in the Middle East Asia must be differed from the Peri-Gondowana Sea by the Gondowanan foraminiferal assemblage. However, in the eastern Tethys-Sea area, South China to Japan. The establishment of faunal province is very difficult, because the faunal elements are complicated in their biogeographical distribution as shown in the figure one of the attaced paper entitled [Faunal characteristics and bioprovince of Japanese Paleozoic smaller foraminifera]. The main results of this study may be summarized as follows ; 1) The foraminiferal fauna with primitive colaniellids, which were described from the latest Middle Permian of Salt Range, Pakistan (Okimura,1987), has been newly found in the Kuma Form

ation of the Outer Zone, southwest Japan. This new discovery indicates that the Kuma Formation is characterized with a Gondowanan element and that the Permian formation of Outer Zone belongs to the Peri-Gondowanan faunal province. While such Triasic ammonites as Koninckites cf. Devidsonianus and Paranorites sp., some Gondowanan fossil is discovered from the Miharaiyama Group of Maizuru Belt, Inner Zone of Southwest Japan. Accordingly, the boundary of Eurasia-Gondowana in Japanese Islands may be not related with the formation of Median Tectonic Line. 2) Some species of such conodonts and radiolarians as Gladigondorella cf. Tethidas, Gondorella gnathiformis, and a few species of Triasocampe found from Triassic formation of Muslim Bagh area, Axial zone of Baluchistan, Pakistan, were identified to the same species desctibed from the Chichibu terrane of outer zone, southwest Japan. In other words, the Gondowanan element can be regarded by the comparison of each genera and species. 3) But the Tethyan sea and Gondowanan sea may be distinguished by the faunal assemblages in biofaies and by the analytical study of sedimentary facies in the terrane-geology.
