Research Abstract |
From the negligible content of oligosaccharides in fruit and marked decrease in percentage of oligosaccharide- ^<14>C in petiole and fruit tissues, oligosaccharides as major translocates in cucumber and melon plants seemed to be metabolized to sucrose or further to hexoses in petiole and peduncle. However, it was apparent that some ^<14>C was transported as oligosaccharides into fruit without breakdown.
