| Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cariostatic effect of mouth rinsing with dilute fluoride solution by the three factors of erupted time, mouth rinsing piriod and caries prevalence, and to compare the post-treatment benefits of caries prevention using two consetration of fluoride mouth rinsing solution.
1. Cariostatic effect of dilute fluoride mouth rinsing.
The school children carried out fluoride mouth rinsing with solution of 100ppmF for 6 years. The increment of DMFT index was less than that of control group. There was a clear cariostatic effect with the advance in the school grade. DMFT rate for each tooth type showed a statistically significant difference.
2. Comparison of the prolonged prophylactic effect of fluoride mouth rinsing with solution of 100ppmF and 500ppmF.
Cohort study was performed the cariostatic effect of children who carried out a fluoride mouth rinsing every day for 6 years. One group used a solution of 100ppmF, another applied 500ppmF.
In 31 months after the final fluoride application, each group showed a clearlly cariostatic effect with statisticaly significant difference to control group. The each tooth DMF rate and caries increase rate between two fluoride groups did not indicate a clearly difference. Therefore, the post-treatment benefits were recognized both 100ppmF group and 500ppmF group.
From these findings, it is concluded that mouth rinsing with dilute fluoride solution is a useful cariostatic procedure, when used in school-based program and also produces prolonged cariostatic effect after 31 months.
