Research Abstract |
In the course of investigation of the Phillipine medicinal plant, Premna odorata Blanco, two monoacyl and four diacyl 6-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylcatalpols were isolated. In the Philippines, this plant is used for loosening phlegm, as a cough remedy, to promote urination and vaginalirrigation, and for cardiac troubles. A related plant, P. japonica Miq. is also used in China as an antipyretic, a hemostatic and an antidote for bites by poisonous snakes. From leaves of P. japonica, a total of nine new acylated deivatives of 6-0-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosylcatalpol was isolated. Their structures were determined by ^<13>C and ^1H NMR, and other physico-chemical meathods. Another related plant, P. corymbosa was collected in Okinawa. This plant morphologically resembles more with P. odorata than P. japonica. Chemical investigation of this plant is on the way, but irigoid glucoside conjugate of acteoside was isolated along with acteoside and acylted 6-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyuranosylcatalpol. Research on the structure determination of the conjugated is in progress.
