Research Abstract |
We have developed a real time training system for acquiring good writing skills of Japanese letters using character recognition techniques. In Japan, a handwriting is supposed to reveal not only its literal meaning but also the writer's personality and sensibility. This system stores a handwritten Japanese character database and the skill knowledge of writing in a rule based paradigm. The system can supervise how the user writes his letter while he is writing/inputting letters on the writing pad with a pen and can evaluate the degree of his writing skills such as stroke order, writing speed, letter shape, and allocation of sub-pattern. Each time the user finishes writing a letter, according to the degree of his writing skill, the system shows what to be corrected and how to improve his letter for more beautiful one by visually drawing a corrected letter which follows his input letter on he display. This system is also useful for foreign students who is learning Japanese language.
