Research Abstract |
In order to automatize the yarding operations with the light cable system we investigated the mechanism for the mobile yarder with tower to remove a end of yarded tree in the corridor behind the vehicle and to run the carriage in obedience to the program. At the final year of the project a prototype of the mobile yarder installed some automechanisms was manufactured. Operational and mechanical tests of each mechanisms were carried out. And we discussed the characteristic of the developed mobile yarder and the remained problems of the automechanism. The following results were obtained : 1. We developed the equipment with parts of a swingable and extension boom, a hook attached to the top of the boom and an automatic released hook at the end of the mainline. Making use of this equipment, an operator can regulate the stock of yarded trees and control the running of the carriage on the landing during the next yarding operation. 2. Winchs aimed to the program running of the carriage with the running skyline system must be interlocked at any position of the carriage. The adopted capstans of this mobile yarder make the total length of mainline and haulaback line to be constant. Furthermore, the strage drum is always torqued, there is not trouble within the drums and the wire ropes. 3. Most mobile yarders have a drum for the tight skyline, it is useful to keep the loaded deflection short. But, it takes a long time to set up the cable system. On the developed mobile yarder with some automechanisms, the setting up time is shortened. Therefore, making use of the tight skyline on the severe yarding conditions as concerns the terrain, the high yarding productivity like with the running skyline system is realized. 4. The most important subject of the remained problems is to develop the equipment in order to lighten the load of the choking operation.
