Research Abstract |
1. Fields and members of Investigation : ・Turkey (Istanbul and its suburb, Bursa) ; Haneda, Yokoyama, Hayashi Kayoko (Cooperator, Institute of Oriental Culture, University of Tokyo) ・Iran (Tehran, Esfahan, Shiraz, Yazd, Kashan, Qazvin) ; Haneda, Yokoyoma, Komaki ・India (Delhi, Aghra) ; Haneda, Yokoyama, Ogura 2. Objects of Investigation : ・Analysis of spatial structure of Turkish, Iranian and Indian Islamic Cities ・Clarification of the Evolution of City Plan ・Elucidation of Social Roles of Gardens in Muslim Cities ・Comparison of Several Types of So-Called "Islamic Gardens" ・Elucidation of Inter-Influences Between Islamic and European Gardens 3. Interim Report : ・Non-existence of a kind of "bagh" in the suburb of Turkish and Indian cities. -> It becomes clear that "bagh" is one of special elements of Iranian cities. ・Reconfirmation of Important Functions of Religious Buildings (Mosques, Madrasas, Mausoleum, Etc.) in Muslim Cities. ・Difficulty of following the evolution of the "Islamic Garden", and as a result, of analysing the mutual influences between Islamic and European Gardens. ・Discovery of some interesting themes for the future investigation in India (ex. Examination on the change of the originally Iranian Islamic City of Shahjahanabad). As our investigation is now on the way, its results has not fully come out. However, we have already told a part of fruits of our investigation on the occasion of a public lecture at Niigata city.
