| Research Abstract |
In spite of big efforts of many researchers in the world, the causes of cancer and the mechanism of carcinogenesis have not been solved completely. The changing feachers in cancer with the passage of time may play some role these delay of the solution. It is one of the basic methods in epidemiologic research for getting the causes of a disease to do a comparative studies both in endemic area and in not endemic area of the disease. In the northern-east part of People Republic of China shows and interesting feature of the cancer occurrence, i. e. the frequency of stomach cancer is high in rural area and that of lung cancer in urbern area. These peculiar characteristics provide us for good field of cancer epidemiology.
To solve some remained questions of stomach cancer and lung cencer, two case-control studies were conducted in this area ; one is for lung cancer in urbern area and the other for stomach cancer in rural area. Main results from these two studies are followed ;

ausative factors to stomach cancer in high incidence area of stomach cancer, 288 newly diagnosed stomach cancer patients (266 males and 62 females) in rural area in Liaoning Province, China, were compared with those of age and sex matched 576 healthy controls. Patients with stomach cancer showed some typincal psychological features such as eating with angrily feeling (RR=3.39), irritable (RR=2.13), cheerful (RR=0.62), excitable (RR=1.80) and cold-hearted (RR=1.47). These results sugested that osycological factors might play some important roles in carcinogenesis of stomach cancer.
To clarify the risk factors to lung cancer by histological types in Shenyang city, high incidence area of lung cancer, 100 newly diagnosed female lung cancer patients, were compared with those of age and sex matched 200 healthy controls. Smoking is the most causative factor (RR=2.1) for lung cancer as already showed in study in other area in the world. Lung cancer patients with squamous cell-carcinoma showed stronger relation to smoking habits (RR=2.9) than the other types of lung cancer patients. Less
