Research Abstract |
In 1990 and 1991, receiving a Grant under the Monbusho International Scientific Research, the Japanese research team, mainly from the University of Hokkaido, visited a Polish village ; Kamionka district of Kleczew village of Konin prefecture in central Poland. We stayed at this village about 80 days and could meet with all inhabitants of the Kamionka district ; i. e. 23 households. Through direct interviews with these farmers, which were usually more than 5 hours, we could draw a family tree and a field map at every home. In the field of agricultural economics, perhaps, we are the first researcher from the Werstern countries which can hold an interview with all inhabitants of one village in a "socialist country", Moreover we could hold many interviews with managers of various agricultural institutions, such as agricultural cooperatives. From our research on the Polish village, we can conclude, that the Polish rural society is a very traditional society, and there blood relation and family plays the most important role : the political factors and the economical factors are less important. In the course of economic reform of socialist countries we can not forget these facts and can not neglect the traditional factors in the Eastern society. . In our project the Japanese side invited the Polish scholars to Japan in order to show the real fact of the Hokkaido's agriculture. The Polish scholars stayed at Hokkaido's villages more than 40 days and could hold 15 interviews with the Japanese farmers. Like as in Poland, the average time of interview was more than 4 hours. Also they could visit various institutions in the Japanese rural society. For the Polish scholars the results from the research in Japan are very useful in thinking out new agricultural policies in the Polish market-economy. The final report of our project will be published in Japanese language from the Bokutakusha publishers, Tokyo, in 1993.
