Research Abstract |
Twelve persons in 9 parties have been dedicated abroad this fiscal year. Their activies and results are as follows : Using IRTF, Nagata has made infrared imaging toward the Galactic center and has found stellar cluster of 20 sources surrounded by HII region. Data reduction is in progress. Using UKIRT, Hasegawa has made infrared spectroscopy toward the Galactic center and NGC253 and has found fluorescent emission from H_2 molecule excited by UV radiation fields. Using UKIRT, Nishida has made infrared spectroscopy toward the Seyfert 2 galaxy and radio galaxy and has detected H_2 molecule from Cyg A. This is the first detection of H_2 from narrow-line radio galaxies. Using UH88, Takami has made infrared spectrophotometry of NGC253 and has obtained H_2O and CO index, which determine the stellar composition of the galaxies. Data reduction is in progress. Using KPN04m, Nishida has made infrared spectroscopy of IRAS23060+0505 and Markarian 3. He has revealed a presence of nucleus of Seyfert I type by detection of Pa alpha and Pa beta emission lines with broad wings in IRAS23060+0505. He has also detected H_2 molecules in Mark 3. Using AAT, Ogura and Nomaru have made optical spectroscopy of 100 candidates for Herbig-Haro objects in L1641, of which 20 objects have been confirmed as genuine Herbig-Haro objects. Using AAT, Todo and Takato have made optical spectroscopy toward H-H34 and obtained detailed velocity-fields over the object. Data reduction is in progress. Kawara and Taniguchi were awarded three nights on the KPNO-4m to carry out "Near infrared H_2 emission in Bare type 1 Seyferts and Quasars". This run was, however, entirely clouded out, the dome never being opened. Using JCMT, Hayashi has made CO 3-2 images toward H-H34 and H-H111. H-Hll shows a remarkable coincidence between the molecular emission and optical feature particularly in the blueshifted jet. This correlation delineates strongly interacting regions between the protostellar activity and its environment.
