Research Abstract |
The project of the Solar Terrestrial Energy Program (STEP) has been recommended from ICSU to each corresponding country to pursue as SCOSTEP (Science Committee on Solar Terrestrial Physics) international colloboration studies. The present studies aim then to establish the structure of the projects in the preparation phase of the program both from the sides of the international and national stand points of viewes. The projects cover the total range of the fields in the solar terrestrial relationship starting from the sun to the earth's atmosphere. The energy transport through the regions of the interplanetary space, magnetosphere, ionosphere, middle atmosphere, stratosphere, and troposphere is main subjects of the studies mainly beeing focussed on the variable components associated with the sun spot activities ; i, e. The transport of energy of ultra violet and the solar wind energy through the whole solar-terrestrical space are key objectives. As the national activities the first STEP symposium has been held in April, 1990 to study the detail planning of STEP in Japan ; the results are published in Japanese, and abstracts of these programs have also been published in English Through the activity of this study program, the international connection of the STEP national program has been established. The detailed items are : i) Preparation of the regional STEP ground-based ballom and rocket-born situation center. ii) Preparation of the establishment of a STEP simulation promotion office. iii) Planning of ground based observation facilities collaborating with the satellite programs prepared by four space agencies such as NASA, ESA, Inter Cosmos and ISAS. Thus, towards the implimentation of the national STEP program with intimate collaborations with international counter parts preparation of STEP has successfully been carried out by the present program.
