Research Abstract

この1年間は5年計画で推進してきた「タゥニュートリノの質量の測定」研究の最終年度であった前年度までにシンチレーションファィバ-検出器の開発を含む製作と、原子核乾板の大量塗布を行って検出器の建設を完了し、平成6年4月末からは、CERNのSPS加速器の創りだすニュートリノを検出器に照射することが出来た。照射出来たニュートリノの量はほぼ予定どうりであった。
照射は10月末に完了。照射期間中は、ターゲットの原子核乾板とシンチレーションファイバー飛跡検出器との間に入れたインターフェイスの役割をする特別なエマルションプレートを3週間毎に交換した。このインターフェイスプレートはchangeable sheetと呼び、実験現場のCERN研究所内でその都度作り交換したプレートは即現像して飛跡の蓄積を抑えた。 これらの照射作業は順鋼に進み、照射の終わったインターフェイスプレートは名古屋大学に持ち帰り解折の準備に入った。
11月からは、名古屋大学のエマルション解折装置を駆使してchangeable sheet上のX線で記録きれたfiducial markの測定を行い、プレート全体(71cmx36cm)を10ミクロンの制度でcalibrationを行った。
その結果trackerで捉えた素粒子飛跡を1本1本確実にエマルンョンターゲットにつなげられることが確認できた。昨年末の12月30日にはニュートリノ反応の第1号をエマルションターゲットめ中で確認出来るという成功を収め、それ以後ニュートリノ反応の連続的な大量解折が始まっている。計画した実験感度を持って解析が進行し始めた所であり(人工衛星の実験に例えれぱ打ち上げに成功し、軌道に載った衛星から良質なデータが届き始めた所)、物理の議論は少なくとも半年の解析が進んだ頃から始まるであろう。物理の結果、即ちミューニュートリノからタウニュートリノへの振動の柾拠が見つかるかどうか大変楽しみである。
