Research Abstract

For the purpose of extension of the user's dictionary in the databases for Japanese litetature, this research has been intended to study and collect words which were restricted ordinary key words except for proper noun such as titles, authors and place names.
More than 120 researchers, including 1 chief investigator, 28 co-investigators and 72 co-operators, participated in this 2 years research.
In the first fiscal year (1990), researchers are grouped up in 16 teams (in accordance with their expertise) and each teams collected words from the view of their specialties, in which basic materials were prepared by the National Institute of Japanese Literature. In the second fiscal year (1991), another 8 teams collected another words in the same way.
Consequently, more than 17, 000 words (classic 10, 000, modern 7, 000) are collected during 2 years research. Additional attributes i. e. different figures of KANJI, different pronunciation, mostly used period, analogical words, are added to each collected words to utilize as a computer dictionary.
In the future, total key words will be expected to about 200, 000 words including proper noun. The most difficult problems may be the storage capacity of computers to record such a large quantity of words and construction of thesaurus.
