Research Abstract |
1. It was clarified by the survey of data presence in Japan that there are many data in sedimentary petrology, some of which were collected and entered and supplied to the IGCP 269. 2. The data structure and data sheet, which were proposed by the IGCP 269, were examined. Several comments on described items and expression were sent to the IGCP 269. 3. In cooperation with the IGCP 269, the prototype database was constructed using two commercial DBMS softwares (Paradox and Foxbase) on IBM/PC and entering example data. It contains more than 300 data and 1.4 MB, and it was released and distributed with the software of runtime version. 4. Two kinds of problems were clarified in converting the ptototype database into the Japanese version; one is programing problems, and the other is in the software itself. The former was cleared, but the latter has not yet been solved. 5. Data structure, data entry system and retrieval system of the prototype were examined in our group, and reported to the IGCP 269. To publicize the database the prototype database was reported and demonstrated in the 29th IGC, 13th CODATA Conference, etc., and training courses were held. 6. As the result of our study, it is necessary to construct the actual database by updating and extending the prototype database. It was decided to propose a new project to exploit the database at the final meeting of IGCP269 (Ankara, June 1993).
