Research Abstract |
The results obtained from this research project are summarized as follows. 1) The petragenetic processes of igneous rocks derived from mantle and their variatiatis in time atid space : On the basis Of Studies on Sr isotopes, it seems that as thellosphere material low in Sr isatopes ratio intruded into continental mantle beneath back-arc to the Japan Sea region. Magmas produced back arc basalts are probably caused by the upheaval of the astheriusphere. 2) Alteration and weathering processes of the igneous racks in shallow crustal level, ocean floor and ground surface environments : The ordering of AI and Si in wairakite (zealite group) and the proportion of constituent layers of chlorite-smectite mixed layer minerals associated with wairakite are controlled by the temperature. Furthermore, biogenetic magnetites and clay minerals in the sediments of the Japan Basin are described mineralogically. Then their distribution patterns might be correlated with the variations in the environments

of the Japan Basin. 3) Depositional arid alteration processes of sediments oil ground surface : Garnet, hornbleride and pyroxene of the turbiditic sandstones of Neagene Tertiary from the northern Fossa Magna regions indicate different compositions due to the difference in stratigraphy and localities, suggesting their differences in provenances. 4) Formation of calcified tissues and diagenesis of biomineral in strata and on land surface : The molar fossil of Desmostylus keeps metal elements such as iron from surrounding environment. Sufide minerals are depasited not only on the tooth surface, but also in tooth tissues in the course of diagenesis. Primary minor elements are well preserved in enamel tissues. 5) Variations in microstructures and compositions of minerals during the formation of deformation structures : The uplift processes of the Hidaka metamorphic belt and accretionary of the Shimanto belt of Kyusitu are discussed on the basis of deformation stages and variations in mineral compositions.
