Research Abstract |
Information of the noble metal alloys as implant materials were few, and especially, tissue reaction of these alloys were unknown. In this experiment, basic information of elements of Au and Pt were obtained, and these will be a fundamental data in this field. Biocompatibility of Au-Pt alloys are as good as almost same as pure titanium. Among these alloy, 10%Pt^-40%Pt alloys showed excellent properties, and did not inhibit the new bone formation. In order to obtain the alloy which has larger mechanical strength, 5%Ta-25%Pt-Au alloy was made. This alloy represented the fine castability, high mechanical strength and excellent biocompatibility. However, most adequate amount of Ta has not been determined yet, and further investigation for the best composition of this alloy is necessary. Thermal treatment of Au-Pt or Au-Pt-Ta alloys were not performed, so further investigation to modify these alloys considering of hardening heat treatment will be very important. This study concentrated to the lower percentage of Pt, but the alloys which contains larger amount of Pt and less Au may show good properties as implant materials. By this experiment, fundamental data concerning to the Au-Pt binary alloys and one excellent Au-Pt-Ta alloy were obtained. It will be great advantages for the development of new noble metal alloys for the implantation to perform further investigation of these Au-Pt and Au-Pt-Ta alloys.
