Research Abstract |
THE TRIAL FOR APPLYING THE IMPELLER TYPE HUSKER TO THE DIRECT HUSKING OF THE HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT OF RICE STANDING IN THE PADDY FIELD WAS ATTEMPTED. IT WAS FOUND THE IMPELLER TYPE HUSKER COULD BE SUCCESSFULLY MOUNTED AND APPLIED FOR ACTUAL HUSKING OPERATION ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT OF RICE. THIS FUNCTION HAS THE HIGH POSSIBILITY AND POTENTIALITY IN SHORTENING THE HARVESTING AND PROCESSING OPERATION IN POST-HARVESTING STAGE. FOR SATISFACTORY HUSKING, THE QUALITY OF BROWN RICE MUST BE CONSIDERED SERIOUSLY, HOWEVER SOME OF THEM CAN BE USED FOR FEEDING TO ANIMALS. THEREFORE, THE RICE TO BE USED FOR ANIMAL FOOD OR PROCEED PRODUCTS, THIS HUSKING SYSTEM CAN BE IMMEDIATELY APPLIED, BECAUSE THE QUALITY IS NOT CONSIDERED SO CAREFULLY. FOR THE RICE AS THE MAIN FOOD FOR HUMAN BEING, THE HIGH QUALITY IS REQUESTED IN ADDITION TO THE PRICE. IN HUSKING OF THE HIGH MOISTURE CONTENT OF RICE, THE PERIPHERAL SPEED OF THE IMPELLER SHOULD BE NECESSARILY INCREASED FOR BETTER HUSKING MAINTAINING

THE HIGH PERCENTAGE OF HUSKING, HOWEVER NATURALLY THE INJURY AND DAMAGE ONTO THE GRAIN(BROWN RICE) IS INCREASED BECAUSE OF THE INCREASE OF IMPACT FORCE ACTING ON THE GRAIN IN THE PROCESS OF HUSKING. IN THIS RESEARCH PROJECT TWO TYPES OF HUSKING METHOD WERE COMPARED AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE DAMAGE ONTO THE GRAIN WAS OBSERVED USING THE IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUE. AS THE RESULT OF THAT, FOR IMPELLER TYPE HUSKER THE TOTAL NUMBER OF THE GRAIN DAMAGED WAS MORE THAN THE ONE HUSKED BY THE CONVENTIONAL RUBBER ROLL TYPE HUSKER, HOWEVER THE DAMAGED AREA PER ONE DAMAGE WAS MORE LESS THAN THE LATTER ONE. THE DAMAGED AREA PER ONE DAMAGE WAS ALMOST EQUAL TO ONE THIRD TO ONE FOURTH COMPARED WITH RUBBER ROLL TYPE HUSKER. THE DAMAGED AREA FOR BOTH IMPELLER TYPE AND RUBBER ROLL TYPE ONE WERE ALMOST 10 % AND 40 % RESPECTIVELY OF THE TWO DIMENSIONALLY PROJECTED AREA OF ONE GRAIN. THE EFFECT OF HUSKING AND THE DAMAGE ON THE STORAGE WERE INVESTIGATED FOR TWO TYPES OF HUSKING METHODS, NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE WAS FOUND BETWEEN THEM. Less
