Research Abstract |
A mosaic grating composed of two echelle gratings (size 20cm X 30cm each) was produced by way of experiment. An Littrow type system (f-2m) was constructed to investigate the mosaic grating. Required accuracies for aligning the gratings should be better than 0.1 areconds in rotation and 0.1 microns in translation. They were achieved with the combination of piezo elements and mechanical springs. Strong light sources, such as red (6328A) or green (5435A) laser, made possible to align directions and phases of the reflected light from the two echelle gratings without difficulty. However, the alignment for wider wavelength regions other than the special wavelength given by the laser was not successful in this experimental period. The laser image was recorded with a video camera in a room where the temperature changed by less then 1゚C. The alignment was confirmed of be effective at least 2 hours.
