Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research project is to develope a magnetic stress analyzer which can be applied for the stress measurement of off-shore or underwater steel structures such as piers and piles. The important features of this system to be developed are as follows. 1)Utilization of the phenomenon of magneto-striction, especially that of the range of saturation magnetization. 2)Utilization of the relationship called 1/H^3 rule. This rule is obtained thoretically, and verified experimentally by our research groupe. The following research results have been obtained. 1)For the purpose of the evaluation of the performance of the developed system, the testing device enabling the loading of steel specimen set in the water. 2)A water-proof magnetic probe has been developed and has shown us a good performance. 3)A magnetic stress analyzer, which isofully automated by a micro-computer is developed. This system was proved that the output magnetic signal obeys the 1/H^3 rule.
