Research Abstract

Non-contact and accurate 3-dimensional profile measurement is hi desirable in the fields of mechanical engineering, orthodontics plas reconstructive surgery and human engineering.
Important points of the 3-dimensional profile measurement are how obtain all 3-dimensional data as fast as possible, and how convert these data to 3-dimensional coordinates.
In this research, we show one technique to enable fast 3-dimensi measurement of a human maxillo-facial morphology. As mentioned before profile of head is one of important concerns in the orthodontics and tic surgery. The principle of our measuring system is based on the Corded Pattern Projection Method. One feature of our system is tha ployment of image processor and fast data processing algorithm to co the image data to 3-D coordinates. Since our system gives data of more forty thousands of points, some fast technique to process a large numb data in a few seconds is needed. Therefore, we introduced a look-up t where all the information abo … More ut the aberration caused by the TV camera and also about the relation between the raster coordinates of the t Pointing and the 3-dimensional coordinates are embedded.
Calibration of the camera system : Perspective transformation for gives the relation between 3-dimensional coordinates (x, y, z) and the c sponding raster coordinates (u, v) as the following equation where hij parameters to represents the geometrical configuration of camera sy Already one calibration method is develooed to measure six distingu points whose coordinates are known in advance. Parameters hij can be d mined so that all the data measured satisfy Eq. (1) with the least sp error. Experiments were performed using our system with length 50 c deviation angle between TV cameras and projector decrees. As shown d ters of cylinders were measured with error than + 0.5mm.
In this system 3-D data of human maxillo-facial face were compre and stored in the 128 k byte memory. We are now intending to connect data to 3-D data edit system like a market CAD/CAM system so that data more fruitfully. Less
