Research Abstract |
In this project we established following two goals ; (1) complete provision against an integrated environment for enabling mutual exchange of information among computers in the educational situation of compiling and handling of data by students themselves in courses of natural sciences and social subjects in elementary and junior high schools. (2) curriculum development in relation to versatile suppose of active use of information involving their scientific investigation and discussion on the basis of information processing. As for our achievements in research, we implemented following two software ; (1) "Ichi-Ni-San", a database software supporting kids to operate by students themselves, to analyze data, and to display them on graphic devices. (2) "Kawara-VAN", a telecommunication tool to allow message exchange among students. With regard to the progress in the research, in the march, 1991, we submitted an interim report on the development of these software and on their trial application to practical instruction. The final report of this project was described on the development of the software, manuals for software implemented and practical survey on the curricula developed. IBM Japan has a plan to realize our "Ich-Ni-San" into their package "The Electronic Maps for Education" (Map DB : editions for PC-98 of NEC and Japanese DOS/V of IBM) basing on our ideas derived from this research. Pelated software products of "Kawara-VAN", an interconnection software to NARUTO-net, Pretty Basic, etc. may be released to our collaborators free of charge. The positioning of this study is the implementation of supporting environment for students' learning motivation by their active use of computers as tools for information handling in classes. To summarize our achievement, we are sure that this project has reached the stage for practical use.
