Research Abstract |
A few Raman spectrometers for a combined use with an optical multichannel detector are now commercially available. However, those are inevitably composed of three stages of monochromator, and thereby, are not suited to such Raman spectroscopies as higher sensitivity is needed. Consequently, development of a highly sensitive system is strongly welcome to many scientists and technicians in wide fields. We have for the first time developed a new-type of Raman spectrometer with a new design principle adopted ; first, the system should be much more sensitive as compared to the established ones, and second, the system can be utilized, if necessary, as a single-stage spectrometer with all optical setup left unchanged including a sample. The latter enables one to employ the system for versatile purpose or use. A trial manufacture is such that the premonochromator is composed of two concave gratings making F-number greatly reduced, and further is equipped with a bypass mechanism so as to send directly input light, if necessary, to a main spectrograph. The latter works very well for observing Raman signals with high freqency shift. The characteristics of the system were examined in detail by observing Raman signals of electronic origin as well as phonons in high-T_c superconductors. As a result, the trial system has been proved very satisfying. We have already published an important article concerning superconducting gap excitation observed with the present system, and are submitting an article concerning the system itself. By way of trial experiment, a newly designed Raman spectrometer is now available by purchase from Ritsu Oyo-Kogaku Co. Ltd., together with another simple version as an option.
