1. Measurement of the biological information on cattle in a barn. The automatic measuring system on the biological and behavioral information in cattle tethered in a conventional dairy barn was constructed. The each data measured were transferred to personal computers and stored in after every minutes. The items measured were as follows. (1)Biological parameters : heat production, vaginal temperature, heart rate, respiration rate. (2)Behavioral parameters : standing, lying, eating, ruminating, drinking. 2. Effects of behavior on the biological parameters. Four pregnant Holstein heifers were measured for five consecutive days using the apparatus mentioned above and the results were summarized as follows. (1)The body temperature decreased after standing up and increased after lying down. Heat production increased soon after standing and began to fall within eight minutes after standing. (2)The heat production, body temperature and heart rate increased after feeding. After the commencement of rumination the heat production increased, whereas no other biological parameters changed. (3)The body temperature and heart rate decreased after drinking water. 3. Data exchange through the personal computer network. It seemed most acceptable that using an electric mail system on the domestic commercial network services for long distance communication and the local bulletin board system(BBS)for short distance communications. In future, the Integrated services digital network(ISDN)will become more popular and the international data exchange service progressing on a commercial bases.
