Research Abstract |
Epidemiological study : We researched the prevalence of TMJ disorder on 18-25 aged people(Japan Orthodontic Society. '90). which followed the research of 6-18aged people that had published already 1988(Journal of Japan Orthodontic Society, Vol. 45). That prevalence was 33.9%. It was higher percentage than younger people(11.2%). we reconfirmed that the prevalence increased by age. The aging factor has to be more clear to protect TMJ disorder. Clinical study : We compared the prevalence of TMJ disorder of postorthodontic treatment and preorthodontic treatment people. The prevalence of the former was higher(48.9%)than that of the latter. That indicated the relationship of TMJ disorder and orthodontic treatment. We have been promoting computer graphics system of mandibular position since'88. We found the data of 30 normanl occlusion as control data, as follows : vertical and anteropostero deviation was under 1mm, horizontal deviation was under 0.3mm(TMJ Soci ety, Japan orthodontic Society, TDC meeting, '90). Now we are going to promote and present the program which is individualized cephalogram and version up of former program. Otherwise many dentists selected orthodontic treatment as definitive treatment of TMJ disorder. We presented a postorthodontic case which had had TMJ disorder but got better after treatment (TMJ Society, JOS, American Association of Orthodontics, '91). Therefore orthodontic treamtent is considered that cure methods or causes of TMJ disorder. We has to continue the research of relationship of TMJ disoreder and orthodontic treamtnet.
