Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to examine the prescription standard for the elderly patients with ischemic heart disease. 52 senior citizens, aged 65 years or older, were involved in the research. (Group A : 17 patients with ischemic heart disease. Group B : 15 sports club members. Group C : 20 senior citizen's club members). Questionarire investigation, Treadmill exercise tolerance test, Holter electrocardiogram, heart rate monitoring during exercise by sports-Tester, recording of a week's activity, and psychological tests were given to all subjects. Average exercise capacity of Group A, which continuously participated in sports cardiac rehabilitation was 7.4<plus-minus>2.1 minutes and average number of steps taken in a day was 7328<plus-minus>3 Physical fitness of Group A was maintained at a level equal to or better than those of its healthy counterparts. Analysis of psychological/mental tendencies by MAS(Manifest Anxiety Scale) and TEG(Todai Egogram) showed Group A to be at a slightly unstable level, and a low level of ability to cooperate socially was indicated as a characteristic feature. These follows that one can say exercise intensity and frequency of the sports cardiac rehabilitation was at a proper level. On the other hands, the psychological/mental side did not achieve sufficient recovery. To achieve higher level of recovery to return to society, the following guidances are desired : a lessening of anxiety, improvement of the character traits of selfrecognition, and the achievement of of psychological satisfaction.
