Research Abstract

(1) We have developed an indoor wheelchair mainly made of wood, applying the laminated forming technique. This development is nere the practical use stage now for the aged. we have planned and made it on an experimental basis 4 times. Finally, we have got a constructive concept that the seating and operating parts are made of laminated wood, the moving parts are made of metal. As a result, we have got the indispensable function and ability of it. And we have finded a rational production method of parts working and assembling.
(2) We have tested on the strength of laminated forming wooden parts in JIS Standard. And we have tested on the failure strength of L and T type frame, compared it of laminated wooden frame with metal pipe frame. As a results, we have finded that a 30mm x 30mm sectional piece of laminated wooden frame is suitable for practical use. Meanwhile, we have analysed the strength of the actually planned laminated wooden frame by an finite element method, using a program 「MARC」 for structural analysis. As a result, we proved the design of laminated wooden frame have rational size and shape for dynamic load.
(3) We have studied an individual production method in local area. We have got a viewpoint that the laminated wooden parts and the metal parts should have about 3 size varieties, and a local producer should order these parts from widely managed producers and assemble a wheelchair, satisfying individual needs of local handicapped people.
(4) The aim of development were almost accomplished. In future, we have to get legal authorization, to extract the problem of using over a long time, and estimate the human factors and the environmental factors.
