Research Abstract

The Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research has enabled us to do detailed genre-to-genre research on the museum activities in the fields of film, photography, and design at major institutions in Europe and North America, for which we are very grateful. The number of the institutions we visited for this purpose is many, being 19 for film, 25 for photography, and 20 for design.
Our task this year has been to make the information we have thus accumulated into a report, though it has been impossible to put everything into it.
In publishing the report, there was a difference of opinion in whether to add an English translation of the text, but in the end, it was agreed to produce a report in Japanese only. After a year's work in writing, which was split among the staff members concerned, sorting and selecting photographs, editing, and proofreading, the report on the results of the research which accompany this resume has been finally printed and published.
This concludes the research funded by the Grant-in-Aid, but it is our task from now on to incorporate the valuable findings made through the research into our museum activities.
Through this research, we have been able to accumulate a collection of books on film, photography, and design, for which again we are grateful to the Grant-in-Aid.
