Research Abstract |
This study exmined the social welfare values, the developmental process of social welfare systems and social work values among three advanced countries such as Japan, the United States and Sweden. The task of this study was as the following ; (1) to e the different set of values, philosophy, cultures among three countries, (2) to compare the different history of social welfare systems among three countries and to compare the current social welfare systems among the above countries, (3) to compare the developmental process of social work professions and to analyze the different social work professional systems among the above three countries. The achievement of this research project in 1991 was as the following ; (1) The Japanese researcher visited the State of Iowa and California in the United States. In the U. S., he studied the social welfare programs for the disabled and gathered informations and materials about social welfare philosophy related to the ideas of independent living and equal opportunity. In Sweden, the researcher visited two cities in order to collect informations regarding equality, solidarity and normalization. (2) The international conference was held in August 1991 in Osaka. The participants came from the U. S., Sweden and Japan. The Japanese participants presented the issue of Japanese family care and it's philosophy. The presentation particularly focused on the family care of the disabled and the institutional care of the delinquent youth. The American participants addressed the issue of research methods concerning the comparative study of social welfare service among the three countries (U. S., Japan and Sweden). In addition, the participants reported about American social work values such as liberatism and equal opportunity. The Swedish participant addressed the issue of the common framework of research methods concerning social work history and social welfare systems.
