Research Abstract |
In this research, we. intended to examine the gilding techniques of ancient Japan and Korea. So, we analyzed the gilt relics excavated from tumuli in Japan and Korea, and examined its composition of element. The member of this project are National-Museum-of-Japanese-History and Korean-National-Research-Institute-of-Culturul-Properties and Museum-of-Pusan-University. The samples for analyze are personal-ornaments, defensive-weason, horse-trappings that encavated from Hwangnam-daechong in Silla, Kaya-tumuli, Kaburagi-tomb in Japan. At National-Museum-of-Japanese-History, we used Jeol 820 Electron Microscope with Philips PV9550, energy dispensive X-ray analyzer and mapping soft-ware. As the result of analyze for the ancient relicswe found that highly pure gold was plated on the forged or cast copper of high purity by an amalgam plating method. 1 Gold layer (1) The chemical composition is gold, its rate is 90-98 per cent. (2) The shape of section is dense, maintaining tile constant thickness. 2 Base metal plate (1) Matrix is copper of high purity, not bronze. (2) Many samples are forged and hammered, and few samples have the possibility of casting. (3) The shape of inclusions of base metal plate are glanular or flat, and existense to the direction of forging. (4) Its content is small, and its chemical composition is lead and antimony.
