Research Abstract

1.[研究の狙い]本研究は将来の超高速、超並列光エレクトロニクスの種となる新材料、新デバイス原理、新光回路の課題を追求する基礎的研究であり、光のもつ情報機能の極限を明らかにすることを目的とする。
2.[研究の方法および成果](1)超高速デバイスの材料的基礎に関しては非線形光学効果の利用において最大の問題である位相整合の問題を解決する周期構造による擬整合条件の達成に関して電子ビ-ム書き込みによる強誘電体LiNbO^3の周期的強制分極の実験(伊藤)、位相共役効果または双安定効果を利用した機能光デバイスの検討特に偏光面双安定半導体レ-ザのダイナミクス研究(丹野)、超微粒子を含む低軟化点ガラス光ファイバおよびその非線形効果の検討(佐々木豊)、極限的超短パルス生成のための新しい光変調器の開発およびライフタイムフリ-超高速光スイッチの提案(小林)をおこなっている。(2)超高速、超高周波デバイスの回路的基礎に関しては超短光パルス波形制御に有効な非線形半導体レ-ザ増幅器の検討および光トリガによる高速光電子集積回路の設計と電気光学サンプリングによる評価(神谷)、ならびに近紫外から近赤外におよぶ光掃引発振器をめざしてレ-ザ周波数を確度10^<-10>で測定可能な光周波数カウンティングシステムの試作(大津)をおこなつた。(3)超並列デバイスの材料的基礎については非局在パイ電子をもつ有機非線形材料による高効率導波路SHG素子、超高速全光スイッチ、全光双安定素子の試作実験(佐々木敬介)、およびディスロケ-ション密度の軽減されたシリコン基板GaAsエピタシキアル薄膜を用いた並列コンピュ-タに適する半導体レ-ザの試作ならびに半導体レ-ザとFETを集積化したOEICの作成(梅野)をおこなった。
3.[今後の展開]急速に進歩を続ける非線形材料と量子光学の諸概念を極限光デバイス開拓に結び付けたい。
