Research Abstract |
The formation and evaluation on highly functional thin films by various methods such as sputtering, evaporating and plating were studied on the basis of the application of them to ultrahigh density magnetic recording media and heads for perpendicular magnetic recording system. The microstructure of thin films for the media and head has to be controlled with crystal and also atomic structure level, and also the design considering the read/write systems should be paid to the structure control. On the basis of such idea, the research group discussed the media consisted of different methods such as Co ferrite, Ba ferrite, electroless Co alloys, and also the combination of some heads. In those systems, one of the optimum systems, double layered media with very thin quasi-soft underlayer with a combination of ring type head is proposed. The microstrucure of media is also analyzed to be composed of Co base magnetic particles dispersed in the non-magnetic components. Such results were discussed at our several meetings.
