Research Abstract |
A Computerized Interactive Stated Preference interviewing program (CISP) was developed and tested in order to examine the effectiveness of computer-aided SP survey. The CISP has the following advantages; - In case of ranking three different altematives which consist of the NTS, car and bus according to the preference of respondents, they are presented at random to avoid the ordering bias of presentation, - The conjoint analysis is made automatically during the survey and the LOS factors considering the individual's taste are employed in the 5th and 6th questions, - The contingency check for individual's responses is programed through the survey to assure the consistency of SP data, - The number of questions done in the SP experiment can be reduced by introducing the transitivity checks, - The level of LOS factors is set up based on the RP data which is to be obtained prior to the SP experiment, - It is devised to attract the interest of respondents by providing the pictures and figures related to the NTS and local transport problems, and - The information on the NTS and time table of bus service are prepared as a Help function in the micro computers can be easily drawn when they are necessary. SP survey for the New Transit System in Hiroshima which is planned to be completed in 1994 was actually carried out in 1991 using micro computers for the commuters and students living along the NTS north-western line. The survey procedure and collected data were compared with those of conventional paper-based questionnaire survey done at the same area in 1990. This comparison could suggest the superiority of the CISP data. Then, mode choice models based on Multinomial Logit and Rank Ordered Logit models using these data sets were specified and the goodness-of-fit of models were compared. As a result, the CISP models indicated a higher degree of fit than the models using paper-based data.
