Research Abstract |
The results of the studies carried out for three years, 1991 to 1993, can be summarized as follows. 1. The dynamics of the brain distribution of Hg, Zu, Cu and Se guinea pig exposed to methylmercury and selenium were examined by x-ray fluorescence imaging utilizing synchrotron radiation (SR-XRF). 2. Male Hartley guinea pigs were administered metylmercury chloride and / or sodium selenite every day for ten days. Two dimensional distributions of Hg, Zu, Cu and Se in guinea pig brain were observed by nondestructive x-ray fluorescence imaging. High correlation between Hg and Zn, Cu, Se was observed, whereas much lower correlation was observed for nontreated or only selenium administered guinea pigs. 3. The distribution of Zu, Cu and Se for the adult human kindey (20 and 61 year old) were more accumulated in the renal cortex than in the renal medula. 4. Cu and Zu were more accumlated in the cancerous tissue which located on the outside of prostate, than the normal tissue. In the case of BPH, high accumulation of both Cu and Zu was observed in the hypertrophic grands than normal tissue.
