Research Abstract |
The purpose of the project is to examine the current trends and achievements of the area studies in the western countries. Following carried out last year, the research activities of this fiscal year 1992-93 has been concentrated on the research institutions of various area studies in Germany, France and the United Kingdoms. The survey has been conducted through a series of interviews with the director and/or professors concerned of each institution in the above-mentioned three countries. The visited institutions were : in Germany ; Osteuropa-Institut der Freien Universitat Berlin, Latenamerika-Institut der Freien Universitat Berlin, John F. Kennedy-Institut fur Nordamerikastudien, Deutsches Institut fur Urbanistik, Akademie fur Raumforschung und Landesplanung, and others, in France ; Head Quarter of French National Center for Scientific Research, Institut pluridesciplinaire pour les etudes sur l'amerique latine a Toulose, Center d'etude africaines, Association francaise pour l'etude du monde arabe et musuluman, and others, in the United Kingdoms ; School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London, Center of South Asian Studies of University of Cambridge, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, and others. Information and acquired materials have been studied intensivelY. The results of the studies will appear as a booklet in the near future.
