| Research Abstract |
Economic conditions near Shanghai are changing rapidly. Especially, the econpmic development project in Budong (**) Area of Shanghai and the rapid increases of firms in rural area are the two typical examples. The purpose of our research project is to explain the characteristics of the apparel manufacturing firms in the suburbs of Shanghai in comparison with those of Japan. Before researching in China, we invited Mr.Xie and Mr.Ling(co-investigators) to get the more detailed knowladges of the economic conditions of Shanghai and rural area firms. We also made a research plan. In August we have visited Shanghai to investigate the apparel manufacturing firms in a township(Beichiao township***) of Shanghai county(***) of Shanghai City. According to the rough analysis, there are five types of the apparel manufacturing firms.
Type 1 ; (Company Y), the joint venture of a Japanese company and a Chinese one adopting the Japanese ways of management.
Type 2 ; (Company S, company D), the joint venture of a Japanese company and a Chinese company, adopting the Japanese ways of management partially.
Type 3 ; (Company L, Company K), the joint venture of the apparel manufacturing company of Beichiao township and a trading company in Shanghai City or in the foreign country. The way of management is the Chinese one.
Type 4 ; (Company S), the village company. whose workers are the people from outside of Shanghai City.
Type 5 ; (Company B), the township company, whose workers are the people inside Beichiao township.
One characteristic fact is that the firms only to absorb a surplus population without the modern management are declining.Another characteristic is that the modern management was introduced by Japanese apparel manufacturing companies. After the research during August, co-investigators have carried on the investigation and get more data.In December we invited them to Japan again and had the symposium.
