Research Abstract |
Scientists in Japan and China are planning the comprehensive cooperative study about water and carbon dioxide circulation over semiarid fields in China. To make sure this cooperative study, scientists of Okayama University and Kyoto University visited China from July 14 to 24, 1992, and inspected the Yucheng Experimental Station situated in the Shantung Providence. The Yucheng Station is located in the alluvial part of North China Plain where the natural disasters such as drought, water logging, flooding and soil salinization frequently occurred in the history. We discussed with chinese scientists about Key factors to be considered in our cooperative study We arrived agreement that following problems should be solved under the principle of equality and mutual benefit : Methodology for components of water balance Physical process of water circulation Water balance of catchment Evapotranspiration and water consumption by crops Dynamics of salts and alkalis within soil in relation to soil water movement Response of crops to environmental factors Remote sensing for interpretation of evapotranspiration, soil water content and crop growth Introduction of new varieties and techniques for higher productivity This cooperative study contributes to development of meteorology, plant physiology and hydrology of both countries as well as interchange of scientists between two countries. The cooperative program will be conducted by the institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geography and other ministries in China, and the institutes under Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and other ministries in Japan represented by Okayama University. All of the related scientists sincerely want this cooperative program will be executed smoothly in near future.
