Research Abstract

The thermal output of geothermal power plants has been limited so much because of few information on subsurface cracks, which behave as fluid path or heat exchanging surfaces. this project aims at developing a new methodology for design of advanced geothermal energy extraction system based on "Fractal Fracture Mechanics". A study on "Fractal Fracture Mechanics" has a multidisciplinary aspect ranging from geophysics and geology to mechanical and resources engineering. "Fractal Fracture Mechanics" includes multi-crack characterization of subsurface fracture networks, modelling of heat and mass transfer through the heat exchanging surfaces, and alternation process of reservoir rocks.
