Research Abstract |
Last year, we launched the solar-A satellite (now called 'Yohkoh'). This satellite aims at studying the sun in X-rays. So far the satellite performs quite satisfactorily, returning spectroscopic and imaging deta of the solar corona and the solar flares. An important knowledge whichYokoh has brought to us is that the aslar corona is more dynamic and magnetically structured than we anticipated, and full understanding of the coronal physics inevitably requires the observations of the chromosphere and the photosphere with the best available resolution. The project we proposed aims at combining high quality optical data obtained at the observing facilities in both countries together with X-ray data from Yohkoh. For this purpose the Japanese participants visited kiepenheuer Institut and discussed scientific programs to be pursued under this cooperative program. As an outcome of this cooperation, the first coordinated observation is scheduled in August, 1993.
