Research Abstract |
(1) During the research period of two years, 6 meetings were held to study Japanese high school text books (Junior high school : Geography, History and Citizenship, Senior high school : Geography, Japanese History, World History, Contemporary Society, Politics & Economics and Ethics). The number of textbooks for this study totaled 178 books, of both old and revised editions. Revised editions in general are much improved than the older ones. In field of geography, for example, new devices to attract school children's interest are introduced in most junior high school textbooks. As for senior high school textbooks emphasis is no loger found in industrial products. Instead, it is placed on cultures of different peoples. But, there is still insufficiency in detailed descriptions. Having found such insufficient descriptions, each research member has suggested appropriate alternative descriptions. (2) Text books of high schools of U.S., Germany, Swiss, Hungary and Australia have been analyzed by the research members.
