Research Abstract |
Specificity in organic reactions, one of the most important research subjects of current organic chemistry, has been investigated systematically under the name of the title joint project by twenty-eight chemists of a wide variety of speciality backgrounds. The selected experts were devided into three project teams of comparative size ; the first team was mainly concerned with the problems on the enhancement of specificity and reactivity by organic functional groups ; the second one was devoted to the analysis of the relationship between reactivity and electronic requirements, and the last one dealt with the high specificity arising from some functionalized reactive intermediate. The project has brought a great success, more than 460 original papers being published in prestigeous international journals during the given period of the joint studies. Major part of the fruitful results has been presented by the members of each team at two open meetings held in Kyoto on Dec. 4-5, 1993 and Dec. 17-18, 1994.
