Research Abstract

We have studied on estimating method for sea-keeping qualities for high-speed vessel in waves since 1992. The main conclusions obtained in this study are summarized as follows :
(1) Strip theory is valid for the ship speed of less than Fn=0.4, and the estimating accuracy worsens at the ship speed of more than Fn=0.4.
(2) The end term effect in strip theory can not be neglected for a high-speed vessel with a transomstern.
(3) The 2 and half dimensional theory, which is called the high-speed slenderbody theory (HSST), is the most useful method for estimation of seakeeping qualities of high-speed vessel from both a practical standpoint and a standpoint of estimating accuracy.
(4) The three-dimensional Green function method has some numerical problems such as the treatment of line integral, a free surface condiotion, the number of discretized panels and CPU time which should be improved in the near future.
(5) The rankine source method is to be the most promising theory, because it has merits which we can change a free surface condition etc. However, the treatment of steady disturbance around the transom stern of a high-speed vessel should be improved
