Research Abstract |
The present study is essentially aimed to construct an international version for the "IF-THEN method" which was constructed by the representative of this project. This method which consists of a series of simple 32 decsion tasks is a kind of psychological test for detecting the individual social motives in the social interaction situation. Theoretically, this method is based upon the psychological game theory. An individual responses detected by the test mean a general tendency of his responses evoked to the opposite playr in the situation. This tendency is expressed in a form of a set of the nine ratios corresponding to the nine normative social motive components, viz., individualism, masochism, altruism, aggression, cooperation, sadomasochism, competition, martyrdom and equalitarianism. In this test, both the index of the reliability for responding to the tasks and the index of uncertainty in the distribution of nine motive components are automatically calculated. The "IF-THEN method

" has various kinds of characteristics and many advantages. Especially, it has structurally some prominent mark with respect to some cross-cultural studies. The major concrete works for making the international version for the "IF-THEN method" are as follows : 1) constructing the program for the IBM computers to give enough internationality in psychological researches, 2) making the instruction papers which are written in many languages to be used in a wide area in the world, and 3) making the manual or guide book written in English for use the "IF-THEN method". Results obtained in this study are as follows. 1) The computer program for analyzing the subject's responses has veen fundamentally completed in a form of transplanting in the IBM computers which are most popular in the world. 2) Concerning the instruction papers given to the subjexts, the translation into the following 23 kinds of languages are completed, viz., Japanese, English, German, French, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Polish, Hungarian, Arabic, Turkish, Korean, Chinese(Peking and Taiwan), Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Malaysian. 3) The work for making the manual written in English for use in the "IF-THEN method" has fundamentally finished for the time being though some detailed inspection would be necessary in future.
