Research Abstract |
Global atmospheric problems, such as earth warming, ozone layr destroy, acid rain and so on, are the most important target to be urgently investigated, today. The laser radar (Lidar) is a very powerful technique to monitor the spatial distributions of atmosperic molecules. The objective of project is to study the possibility of the measurement of various air molecules, using a differential absorption lidar (DIAL) with a high-power tunable solid-state laser which greatly progresses in these years. The results of investigation are summarized as follows. 1. DIAL measurement of atmospheric water vapor was successfully made up to 10km in the altitude with a tunable Alexandrite laser. 2. A widely tunalble Ti : sapphire laser was developed, a new coherent source tunable up to 3.4mum was obtained with a Raman shifter. 3. Based on the HITRAN database, the possibility of measurement of various air molicules was analyzed by a simulation code, and calculated the DIAL characteristics of CO_2, CO, CH_4 and N_2O molecules in the wavelength range of 1-5mum. The next target is the DIAL measurment of CH_4 at the 2-3mum band.
